Water is an indispensable resource, yet in the semi-arid regions where the Maasai communities live, access to drinking water is extremely limited.
Maasai families have to travel long distances to obtain water, while at the same time looking after the needs of their herds and helping to preserve wildlife.
This situation jeopardizes the health and safety of the population, while compromising the local ecosystem.
Project goals
This project aims to provide safe, sustainable access to drinking water by installing wells in strategic, even remote, areas. Our solution is to acquire a Village Drill manual drilling rig, an innovative technology capable of drilling wells to depths of up to 90 meters.
The solution: Village Drill
Village Drill’s robust handheld drill is easy to use, capable of drilling through almost any type of soil, including sand, hard clay and rock containing water. Thanks to its design, it makes it possible to create water points in hard-to-reach areas at a much lower cost than conventional drills.
Some key features:
Drilling capacity up to 90 meters (300 feet) deep(Village-Drill-Spec-Shee…).
Low operating cost: $2,800 per well, compared with $25,000 for heavy equipment(Village-Drill-Spec-Shee…).
Water recycling during the drilling process to maximize efficiency.
Robust steel construction with double hydraulic jack, providing 6 tons of force, for drilling in a wide range of terrain(Village-Drill-Spec-Shee…).
Impacts and benefits
Improving access to drinking water: Each well constructed will provide drinking water for hundreds of families, their domestic animals and wildlife.
Health and safety: Reduce water-borne diseases and limit risky travel in search of remote water points.
Empowerment of local communities: Train local teams to operate the drill and maintain the facilities, thereby strengthening their long-term autonomy.
How can you get involved ?
We need your support to finance the purchase of the Village Drill and start drilling wells in Maasai villages. Together, we can provide a sustainable solution to this vital issue, improving living conditions for communities while preserving the ecosystem.
